I still remember the night my lil one came into her mom’s chaotic life and blessed it with love, faith and rhythm. Let me take you back to 2008, downtown Cairo on a Friday night where we were cruising through the sea of cars that were hardly moving. Her father just lost his passport and was stranded in Amsterdam causing mommy to go through an early labor. So, there we were, our young Egyptian driver perhaps reading all the quran he had memorized , my friend Tajwar scared to death as she was holding my hands and perhaps shivering too. All of us knew only a miracle could take me safe and sound to the hospital through the ever jammed cobri ( bridge) and then the maddening downtown traffic. My doctor was on phone every 5 minutes reminding me to take it easy. As the pain increased, i looked at the ever serene and beautiful Nile and asked my lord to be on my side when i needed Him the most. I remember my grandma would ask us to pray while crossing river as that’s a sacred place for acceptance. And grandma is always right, isn’t she. In next five minutes, we made it to hospital and Eiman arrived giving her mom the biggest gift of her life - the faith. So this being her 10th birthday was not just a party but a celebration of a decade of love, faith and magic and what else would be more appropriate theme than unicorn.

Once we decided the theme, i did what i always do before arranging any parties- my beloved Pinterest board. A unicorn themed board was formed and I started my shopping spree. I started off with amazon and etsy and then my favorite US stores. When it comes to shopping, US is the boss, the super power. However, I have serious doubts if it does have that status in other avenues too 😂. So i started collecting cake table decor and other stuff from a couple of places. Party city, hobby lobby, tj max, daisu and dollar store all are my favorite. You can reduce to may be just two of them and you can get desired stuff. After much thought we decided to go for swirl back drop instead of normal unicorn shaped ballons/ figure/ screens back drop. We thought it might look too childish and color scheme was not impressive either. Swirls look great in pictures as the colors do pop. They are easily available and cheap too. You just need a couple of hours to fix it and few hands. We all get very excited when it comes to party decor so it’s really fun family time to do it together.

We decided to support the back drop with matching balloons. We got two themed balloons from Party city and made balloon bouquet by getting some budget balloons from dollar tree.

Cake was from good old vons. Their baker got my idea quickly as it’s a popular theme. They already have horn and ear to support our theme. I wanted to replace cupcakes with cake pops but no bakery in OC makes cake pops. Sis in law Fauzia shah came to my rescue, she is a talented baker and offered to bake both cake and cake pops but we convinced her to take it easy and make us pops only. These cake pops were a hit. She made it with all her heart and they turned out to be delicious and were gone in no time.

I love matching candies and party city has an amazing collection. I also got color full macaroons and pretzels. As for pop corns I tried to play smart, as i was short of time and exhausted too, i used cute pink boxes from Daiso and filled regular pop corns with those. Little things can make big difference. And I always remember those magical words.

When it comes to cake table decor, my eldest is a pro MA. She would come and change all my setting and give it her touch which mommy accepts with love and gratitude. Next was the games.

My middle one Taabeer is quite good at taking this task ( with lots of reminders, threats and lectures) This way, I didn’t have to bother about games and i could focus on food. We arranged a picnic area in the back yard for the games.

we had four games :
1: How to Play Pin the HORN on the UNICORN: we got ours from
hobby lobby but there are printablw vereion vailabe at pinterest.
instructruction:
Hang the unicorn poster on the wall. Cut out the horns and give each player a unicorn horn. Then Put a blindfold on the first player tightly 😀 Spin the person around 3 times or more. The player would try to stick the horn at the right spot. The player whose horn is the closest to the original horn is the winner.
2:Guess the rainbow gummy game
this game was really fun. it's originally played with gummy beans but since they are not halal, we opted for flavored gummies. each girl was blind folded and they take turns to taste the gummy and guess the flavor. so much fun!!
3:Scavenger hunt
this was a super hit among the girls. we took this game from

amzing website, do check it out.
4: what is your unicorn name?
kids really loved finding out their unicorn name through a quiz. thanks to pinterest, there are a couple of ways to play the game.girls really enjoyed coming up with their magical name and called each other with their unicorn name throughout the party.
we got unicorn cookie jars for winnersand unicorn giveaways for all the children. you can find good variety on party city.
